Mindset Mastery ~ The Reflective Pause

The new year has reignited my commitment to my evening reflection practice.

The tradition of 'Evening Contemplation' has its roots in many diverse cultures and is encouraged in spiritual traditions. In our typically busy lives, this practice can become a sanctuary, offering respite from stress and anxiety, clearing the clutter in our minds and strengthening the neural pathways in the pre-frontal cortex—an essential hub for fostering positivity. Over time, it can transform into a powerful catalyst for personal growth and self-improvement. Self-reflection, can sharpen our problem-solving skills, refine our decision-making abilities and grow our emotional intelligence. It can serve as a guide, offering profound insights into our behaviours and allowing for intentional changes.

I'm sharing details of my evening practice should you be curious to develop your own.

Instructions

1. Find a quiet and comfortable space free from distractions.

2. Take a few deep breaths to centre yourself before beginning the reflection.

3. Write down your responses to each of the questions below in a dedicated journal or on paper. Alternatively, you can vocalise your reflections with a partner, friend or even a child.

4. Approach each prompt with curiosity and a non-judgmental attitude.

5. Embrace the opportunity for self-discovery and growth that this ritual provides.

Questions

1. Where have I been abundant?

Reflect on moments throughout your day when you experienced abundance. This could be in acts of kindness, achievements or moments of joy. Acknowledge and appreciate the abundance that unfolded in various aspects of your life.

2. When did I come from love?

Recollect instances when your actions or thoughts originated from a place of love (rather than fear). Consider the connections, choices, or expressions that were rooted in love and compassion.

3. What do I need to forgive myself for?

Compassionately explore areas where you may have encountered challenges or made mistakes. Identify aspects that require self-forgiveness. Embrace this process as an opportunity for self-healing and growth, releasing any burdens carried from the day.

4. What did I learn?

Review the lessons embedded in the experiences of your day. Whether positive or challenging, each moment carries an opportunity for growth. Identify the insights gained and consider how they can inform your life going forward.

5. What is my intention for tomorrow?

Set a positive and intentional tone for the next day by articulating your aspirations. Consider the emotions you'd like to cultivate, the thoughts you want to nurture, the experiences you hope to have and the qualities you aim to embody.
