The Importance of Self-Compassion

Research proves that self-compassion is strongly related to our mental wellbeing and plays a part in depression, anxiety, stress and perfectionism.

It equally impacts our happiness and feelings of satisfaction. Regularly practising self-compassion can help to motivate us, make healthier lifestyle choices, feel more connected to others, take greater self-responsibility and improve our interpersonal relationships.

Inquiry

Over the next week notice who is in charge of your self-talk. Is it the disempowering voice of your Saboteur (Chimp) or is it the empowering voice of your Sage (that wants the best for you and acts with courage, confidence and self-compassion)? Simply start by noticing who's voice is speaking to you the most.

Then notice what reaction each of the voices has on your body. Does it make you tense? Is there a tightness around the chest? Maybe you can feel a heavy weight in your stomach? Or do you feel that you can breathe more deeply and easily? Do you experience lightness? Try not to judge anything, simply be curious to discover more.
